An Orlando holiday is synonymous with theme parks and fun on a grand scale. It’s home to Walt Disney World, one of the world’s most family friendly destinations and Mickey Mouse. Plus there’s movie magic at Universal Studios Orlando, and undersea adventures to be had at Sea World. If you’re travelling with kids, theme parks are likely to play a central role in your family holiday in Orlando, but rides and costumed characters aren’t the only reasons to visit Florida.

Along with that famous Florida sunshine, holidays in Orlando offer plenty of perks for visitors. Shopping is a pretty fabulous way to spend the day, especially when you can spot bargains galore at an outlet mall, or roam through the stores of the most popular retailers in America.

Spend some time exploring the cultural side of Orlando, too. It’s a surprisingly sophisticated city with its own ballet, opera company and a host of excellent museums. It’s worth staying up late for Orlando’s nightlife too. In the downtown core, you can bar hop from one club to another, and tap your toes to music ranging from hip hop to jazz to retro 80s hits.

And don’t forget that Orlando is smack dab in the centre of Florida, so it’s a perfect spot to explore other regions of the state. Take the kids to see Cape Canaveral, or head to the Gulf of Mexico coast for some deep-sea fishing. You’re surrounded by Florida’s best sun and fun locations, all of them an easy drive away. There’s a whole world of holiday pleasures close at hand - and not all of them have to include that famous mouse!
