Short trip to the Dubai Rugby 7s

An early start on a cold December morning was the setting of a great trip to Dubai. The alarm sounded at the unworldly hour of 0400, a quick shower and the taxi was waiting to take me to the station.

A couple of hours later we pulled into Glasgow and after a very quick bus transfer (excellent transport connections) to Glasgow Airport.

There were ten of us, all waiting for the Emirates flight to Dubai. We decamped to the lounge and awaited boarding. We were soon on board the comfortable 777 bound for Dubai. The choice of meals and entertainment systems made the time go quickly

After being escorted through the airport to our transfer bus we were soon on our way to our home for the next 4 nights, the Atlantis on the Palm. The hotel was excellent, the rooms were massive and the views spectacular. As it was Friday, we went to a Dubai Institution, Friday Brunch Dubai has many options to suit taste and prices, anything from £25 to £100 per person. The brunches last for 4 hours ( noon till 4pm) and include as much or little food and drink as you want.

Back at the hotel some of us had an early.. ish finish to the night (gone midnight) as we wanted to be fresh for the rugby the next day. The 7s is played over a couple of days but we only had tickets for the final day which is where all of the trophies are played for We were lucky enough to have tickets for corporate hospitality as well which included food and drink and also the chance to meet some of the rugby players.

After a very enjoyable day some of us retired to the Irish Village in Dubai which is a food/drink/entertainment outlet.

Sunday was a day for relaxing, we enjoyed time at the Atlantis own water park , Aquaventure, and in the afternoon we took a cruise around the palm and along the Gulf. In the evening we spent time at the One and Only Hotel on their jetty relaxing, sorry to say drink and food played a part again. After getting back to the Atlantis, we had a final drink in the bar and a chance to say goodbye to our friends who were on the early morning flight to Heathrow. We were lucky enough to have a lie in as we were on the afternoon Glasgow flight.

All too soon we were back in the UK but have great memories of new friends and an unbelievable weekend.
