Newcastle Airport finally gets its own scheduled service to New York

At last the day had arrived Newcastle had finally got its scheduled link to New York There was a group of 7 of us on the inaugural flight. We checked in at the United desks, and were treated to a barbershop quartet singing us on our way. At the departure lounge there was a small ceremony of cutting the ribbon and passengers were treated to a buffet breakfast of fizz (non alcoholic drinks as well) and in true New York style they included bagels of all descriptions. we were soon all aboard and ontime departure to the USA The flight was a fast 7 hours and on arrival at Newark Liberty Airport we were soon through customs/immigration and on our way. Transport from Newark into Manhattan couldn't be easier. We opted for the train which takes you into Penn Station central Manhattan. Our hotel was literally one block away so instead of cabbing it we walked as it was a beautiful hot day. Who thought we could cram so much into such a short weekend? We used the hop on hop off busses to travel the length of Manhattan, visiting numerous destinations along the way. We had a cycle tour of Central Park, visited Ground Zero, Empire State Building, Macys, numerous bars/restaurants and a speed boat ride out to the Statue of Liberty. It felt like we hadn't slept all weekend as we packed so much in. All too soon it was time to come home. This time we hired a Supershuttle which whisked us across to Newark in a short time . Check in was easy and fast at Newark and we all repaired to the United business lounge. On board the flight home was an unbelievable 6 hours. All in all a great weekend and it was all made possible by United Airlines
